Society

So here we are in May 2020 in the thick of it all, the most worrying times of our generation...yes you guessed it Lockdown. Its like someone has a huge remote and just pressed pause on the world then pressed play in slow motion. We are fighting an invisible enemy which has the potential to be life threatening, we can't see it hiding, we cant see it lurking on our surfaces or floating by in the air, nor can we hear it coming; but we know its out there, ready and waiting to take hold of its victims one by one....the infamous COVID-19.

Seeing people wearing masks is no longer 'weird', washing our hands until they resemble raisins is pretty normal these days and crossing the road to avoid someone is no longer offensive.

For a lot of us living with, or caring for someone with Anaphylaxis and severe allergies, we have already been living with an unpredictable assassin, lurking amongst us, causing us unrest, panic and endless worry. We already practice most of the rules for covid-19, the excessive hand washing, airing on the side of caution when being close to people or wearing masks and wiping everything down before we sit, preplanning our journeys to increase our safety chances are all pretty standard for us.

I guess what I am thinking is that maybe now, the rest of society may finally understand our worries, maybe show more compassion and understanding the next time I'm in the cinema and pull out the disinfectant wipes and scrub the seat and table before throwing a blanket over it for Jasmine to sit on. The funny stares and whispers might start to fade and be replaced with a reassuring smile... there is always hope!
