Jasmine was only six years old when she was given the Auto Adrenaline Injectors. As a family we were all familiarising ourselves with how to use them. We had the training in the hospital and we were given a training pen along with a DVD to watch and sent on our way.
With the initial diagnosis of Anaphylaxis, it was a lot to take in, then to get your head around having to use an AAI in an emergency was very overwhelming.
We were all very anxious at this time and thought what better way for us all to learn than through play. Here is a short clip of Jasmine administering the AAI on her dolls.
** this video is of my daughter playing, not a 100% accurate way of giving the pen or the antihistamine (which she refers to as calpol in the clip, also a salbutamol inhaler would be used not a steroid inhaler as she uses in the clip and the AAI would always be administered first**
